BTN's annual answer book for business travel managers.
Boston - The BTN Group tonight named University of Texas at
Austin travel manager for intercollegiate athletics Kevin Maguire its 2012
Travel Manager of the Year.
"This travel manager has recently explored new
territories like consolidating ground transportation sourcing, where he and a
partner built a program from the ground up because he was not satisfied with
the solutions available on the market," said BTN Group editorial director
Jay Campbell during the award presentation. Campbell also cited Maguire's
efforts to consolidate to a single technology tool for chartered air services,
work with a major airline to create a new procedure that streamlined the
check-in process for large groups and assemble a task force of more than 100
travel buyers to persuade hoteliers to reserve space during high-demand
Maguire, who joined UT in 2007, presides over a program of between
600 and 700 travelers spending $10 million to $20 million per year, depending
on UT's athletic success. He is a former president and current vice president
of the Global Business Travel Association.
